Notes

(1) Refugees recognized by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Sources: Casualties—Official data or best available estimate. Data, i.e., fatalities, is cumulative, except for piracy.

Indigenous displaced person (IDP)/refugee statistics--Number of refugees according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Data may vary from that of other sources because of difference in definition. Coverage of data also varies because of difficulty in obtaining periodic data in some countries during hostilities and mass migrations. Refugee movement is frequently of a temporary nature depending on local fighting and breakdown of authority.

Completion: Includes information available through 20 July 2007.
